A Photowalk in Lincolnton.
Sunday, January 30, 2011 at 11:51AM The Arts Council offered a photography class Saturday and part of the assignment was to spend around an hour walking around downtown Lincolnton on a photo scavenger hunt. Unfortunately, when I got back to the class some of my shots got deleted as I was deleting some old shots off of my SD card. So when I returned home, I used my picture recovery software to recover those files. It was a great class and was fun to hang around people who loved taking pictures as much as I do. Also the instructor, Jon J. Arrowood, was a great teacher. Jon is not only only a fantastic photographer he is also passionate about teaching others about the many joys of it.
I took all these at St. Lukes Episcopal Church in Lincolnton, NC. A bunch of beautifully carved tomb stones and old graves. The ones with names on them I was experimenting with an extremely shallow depth of field to make the names out of focus.
Nothing like rusty metal of this water meter cover to photograph.
I then spent the remainder of my hour walking along the Marcia H. Cloninger Rail Trail which takes the route of where the trains used to go under main street in downtown Lincolnton.
Along the trail there are railroad tracks so of course I took a few shoots of those as well.
I love how the railroad signal light gives a fish eye view of the street behind me. Probably my favorite picture of the walk!
It sure was a fun filled day. Thanks Jon! I'll admit that it was challenging to take pictures like this on a photo scavenger hunt but it seemed to channel my focus a lot more. I think that Spring would be a fun time to try this walk again! I would really like to find a photowalk group that would get together about once a month and pick a place to photowalk. That would be fun!
Hope you enjoyed!
Mark
